Outside the Lines by Lisa Desrochers

Title: Outside the Lines (On the Run #1)
Author: Lisa Desrochers
Publisher: InterMix
Release Date: January 19, 2016
Source: ARC from Publisher
Buy the Book: Amazon / B&N / Indigo
As the oldest son of a Chicago crime lord, Robert Delgado always knew how dangerous life could be. With his mother dead and his father in prison, he’s taking charge of his family’s safety—putting himself and his siblings in witness protection to hide out in a backwater Florida town.

Fourth grade teacher Adri Wilson is worried about the new boy in her class. Sherm is quiet and evasive, especially when he’s around his even cagier older brother. Adri can’t help her attraction to Rob, or the urge to help both of them in whatever way she can.

But the Delgados have enemies on two sides of the mob—their father’s former crew and the rival family he helped take down. It’s only a matter of time before someone finds them. And it Rob isn’t careful, Adri could end up in the crossfire…

There is nothing I love more than rediscovering authors I had sort of forgotten about. With so many books coming out all the time, it can be difficult to keep track of which author’s books are coming out when. But reading Outside the Lines has reminded me that I love reading Lisa Desrochers's stories.

Rob Delgado is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his family safe. After a hit man breaks in to his family's home in Chicago, Rob rounds up his siblings and places himself and his family in the witness protection program. But Rob wants revenge and he wants to take back what is his. What Rob didn't count on was Adri Wilson, his younger brother's teacher and the one thing he can't have: a distraction. Adri is determined to find out what is going on with Sherm and his older brother Rob, and to find a way to help them. But the more she finds out, the more Adri wonders what the brothers are involved in. And despite everything she knows, Adri can't seem to fight her growing attraction to Rob. Rob knows better than to get involved with Adri, especially when so many people want him down. But letting Adri in might be the one thing that can save him.

I discovered Lisa Desrochers as an author when I first started blogging almost six years ago. At the time, the first book in her Personal Demons had just come out and I got completely hooked on the series. To this day, that trilogy remains one of my favourites and is always one I refer to when I want to give someone an example of a love triangle done right. But between when the final Personal Demons book came out and now, I hadn’t read anything by her. Even her A Little Too Far NA series. So when I heard about Outside the Lines, I knew it was time to rectify the situation. Even if this wasn’t a book by an author whose previous work I had loved, I would have been intrigued by the mafia concept alone. There’s just something about books where everything isn’t black and white when that always manages to pull me in. And that’s definitely what happened with Outside the Lines. Once I started reading, I was pulled in the story and wanted to find out what had made it so Rob and his family had to enter Witness Protection, whether they were truly safe away from everything that caused them to go on the run, and, especially, how Adri would fit into it all. And for most of the book, the story kept me guessing in more than one way. And even by the end, I still don’t have all the answers I was hoping to get which makes me excited about reading the sequel, Over the Line.

Morally ambiguous characters are always fun to read about, which is what made Rob so interesting to me. Here was this guy who cared deeply about his family and would do anything to keep them safe. Except what he sometimes chose to do in order to keep them safe didn’t always fall on the good side of the law. So often while I was reading, I was torn when it came to Rob and his behaviour. I could tell that his heart was in the right place but at the same time, it felt like he was making just about the stupidest decisions he could possibly be making. But the reasoning behind those decisions was perfectly in line with everything he’d known in his life. It made me want to smack him sometimes. But also, I have to have some respect for someone who’s so fiercely determined to protect his family, even at the cost of his own happiness. And that’s where Adri comes in. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Adri at first because she just came across as so innocent. Even though that was true to some extent, the more I read I also discovered that there was a lot more than that to Adri. As innocent as she might have been, she wasn’t afraid to go for what she wanted and there was very little that could change her mind once it was made up. In a way, she and Rob balanced each other out: where he always saw the worse in people and situations, she would see the best. So the two of them together just really worked and it made me want to root for them.

Outside the Lines reminded me of why I love reading Lisa Desrochers's books. It was a sexy story with just the right amount of intrigue and action. And I can't wait to see what's going to happen next to the Delgado family in Over the Line.

Blog Tour - A Little Too Far by Lisa Desrochers

Today I have the pleasure of having Lisa Desrochers, author of the Personal Demons trilogy and the upcoming A Little Too Far. I have read and loved Lisa's YA trilogy and I am beyond thrilled at the propsect of reading more from this author and can't wait to get my hands on a copy of A Little Too Far. But for the time being, I have Lisa hear to talk about the writing YA and paranormal vs. New Adult and contemporary. Be sure to keep reading for your chance to enter a pretty awesome giveaway.

How is writing new adult contemporary different from writing young adult paranormal?

Honestly, there's really very little difference in the process. For me, all writing is just getting into character. Whether that character in a millennia old demon (Hi Luc!) as in my YA books, or a woman in her twenties, as in my New Adult novels, it's all a matter of connecting with them and understanding what makes them unique. The things that make a demon (or vampire or angel) tick are going to be different, so you need to understand what they are and how they'll affect that character's decisions, actions, and reactions. But honestly, once you're literally inside your characters' heads, the writing process doesn't change. What changes is what you'll find in there. (Writing from inside a demon's head for my YAs was an interesting experience.) As long as you're true to your character and their voice, and you understand their motivations, you'll be able to keep them "real." Because, let's face it, no matter who we're writing, they're all really fictional, as alive as they seem in our heads as we're reading/writing them. If you can get them to leap off the page into the reader's heart, any fantastical creature, such as a demon, can be just as "real" as a normal twenty-year-old woman. The beauty of fantasy, however, is that anything's possible as long as you make it believable, so you can make stuff up that doesn't exist in the real world. For my contemporaries, I do a lot more research. I'm always very concerned that things happen in the way they would in real life.

As far as New Adult versus Young Adult, both are dealing with the same firsts. The difference is that, with New Adult, the characters are dealing with them in an environment with non of the safety nets that most young adults have (family, teachers, etc.) to support them. They're usually handled in a slightly more mature manner, and because I'm writing for an adult audience, there are no holds barred. There is no fade to black or softening of language. You can be one hundred percent true to the character without worrying about the audience.

About the book:
"More than a ridiculously sexy, HOT read, Desrochers takes you on a wild ride of self-discovery and bittersweet romance."
— JENNIFER L. ARMENTROUT, #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR

Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it's more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he's been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years…and is so off limits. It's a good thing she's leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.

But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can't seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt…and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon…only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro two closer, and when Alessandro's signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn't know what to think. She's torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn't want and the man she can't have. And she isn't sure how she can live with herself either way.

Summer Reading - 2013 Edition (2)

Among my friends, I'm known as the book person. As a result, whenever someone is looking for a book recommendation they come to me. This time of the year, this happens a lot since summer is fast approaching and a lot of my friends are typically seasonal readers--as in they read when they have time to do so and that time is often summer. Like I did last year, I thought I would post these recommendations--by genre--here on the blog as well. Up this week, some paranormal recommendations.

- Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout - If you're plugged in to the blog world at all, you will have heard of this series at some point in the last year. So here's the deal, the Lux series is about aliens. Yes, you read that right, aliens. And not only that, but they are absolutely addicting. Once you start reading these books, you will just fly through them and keep wanting more. Though you'll probably question your addiction to these books at time, they are the perfect read when you are looking for romance and action.

- Embrace series by Jessica Shirvington - This series deals with angels--fallen angels and half-angels. But here's the thing, the first book might not have you hooked, but keep reading. If you do, you'll find that the story just keeps getting better and more complex. But beyond that, the Embrace series is different from other angel books out there. And like any good paranormal these, days the Embrace series comes with a good dose of romance. And swoon-worthy boys.

- Elemental series by Brigid Kemmerer - The Elemental series is very much unlike anything else that's out there in paranormal YA. This story deals with four brothers who can each control different elements. And the thing about those brothers is that they're quite the dreamy bunch. But of course there's also a lot more going on. So far there are two books out, with the third one coming out at the end of the month, so it's the perfect time to pick up this series.

- Personal Demons trilogy by Lisa Desrochers - This is one of those really underrated series. I have absolutely loved this series and every time there was a new book I just devoured it. As the name suggests, this is a story about demons and angels--some pretty swoon-worthy ones at that. But in all seriousness, you should really read this trilogy if you are looking for a story with not only two hot boys and one kick-ass heroine, then pick up Personal Demons. Bonus: all three books are already out so none of that annoying waiting between books.

- Starcrossed trilogy Josephine Angelini - You will be hearing me talk about this series a lot in the next few weeks because I absolutely adore this trilogy. This is a story about love, and demigods and you might see a few parallels with the Trojan War. And it's just a fantastic story that is so complex and layered, something I realized while reading the final book. But seriously, if you haven't already, you need to read this series. Plus the last book comes out at the end of the month so you won't have too long to wait if you decide to read these.

This is not an extensive list. If I wanted to, I could probably keep going on for days with paranormal recommendations. These are just a few of my favorites from the last year that I strongly recommend. If you are looking for paranormal recommendations, you can check out last year's post. And if paranormal is not your cup of tea, you can come back next week for some sci-fi and fantasy recommendations.

Authors ARE Rockstars: Lisa Desrochers

Today I have the immense pleasure of being a part of the Authors Are Rockstars blog tour hosted by Fiktshun and Two Chicks on Books. What makes this even better is that I get to host one of my favorite authors of recent years, Lisa Desrochers. If you don't know who Lisa Desrochers is, she is the author of the amazing Personal Demons trilogy. If you haven't already read this trilogy, you are missing out.

So why is Lisa Desrochers a Rockstar?

Lisa Desrochers wrote a book about hot demons and angels. What more could you really want? But beyond that, the story of her Personal Demons trilogy will keep you on your toes the whole way through. There's always something happening and the story goes in every direction imaginable. But in my opinion what really makes Lisa Desrochers a rockstar are the characters she created. Frannie, Luc and Gabe, who you can meet below, are all incredible people. They each have something that makes them unique and they are all among my all time favorite book characters. What makes these characters even better is that after three books, I still can't decide between Luc and Gabe and that never happens. Lisa Desrochers writes them in a way that makes it almost impossible to choose. There is no clear choice and how Frannie manages to choose one is completely beyond me.

The Interview

But that's enough about that. Today I have the great pleasure of having Frannie, Luc and Gabe here to answer a few questions about themselves and their stories. But be prepared, things can get quite intense with the three of them sitting around a table, especially if Luc and Gabe decide to start going at it.

Emilie: To start off, how about you each tell me a little about yourselves.
Gabe: *flicks wrist in a wave* Gabe. Angel.
Luc: *tips back in chair* Luc. Demon…sort of.
Frannie: *scrunches face at the boys* I think she was wanting a little more than that.
Luc: Fine. *lowers chair to ground and leans elbows on table* *stares at Emilie* All demons are born of sin. I’m a Creature of Pride, created by King Lucifer seven thousand years ago to tempt mortals down the fiery path. *winks at Frannie* Better, love?
Frannie: *glares at Luc*
Gabe: And I’m a Dominion, created after the War in Heaven to oversee the guardians for the archangel Gabriel.
Frannie: *smiles at Emilie* They’re harmless, really. So, I’m Frannie, and I’m seventeen, and I like judo and hanging out in my grandfather’s garage rebuilding vintage Mustangs. And…I guess that’s it.
Luc: *lifts eyebrows at Frannie* Really? That’s what you’re going with?
Frannie: *glares at Luc again* Shut up.

Emilie: Okay. Luc & Gabe, you've known each other for a REALLY long time, when did you actually meet? And was there ever a time when you could sort of stand each other?
Frannie: Yeah. I’ve always wondered about that.
Luc: *barks out a laugh* Go ahead, Gabriel. Fill her in.
Gabe: *shifts in chair as eyes narrow* He *juts his chin toward Luc* shows up in Pompeii after Vesuvius, thinking he’s all that. Gonna collect all these souls—
Luc: *laughs again* No, idiot. The first time. *leans in and winks* You’ll have to excuse him. Brain damage from breathing all that ozone. What he meant to say was that I kicked his ass in the inaugural games at the Colosseum.
Gabe: Stop telling her what I mean. *shakes head*
Frannie: Hold up! Did you say Colosseum? As in Rome?
Luc: I did. *eyes flash* *slow grin* And I also said I kicked his ass.
Gabe: *rolls eyes* In your dreams.
Luc: If memory serves me, I left the Colosseum under my own power.
Gabe: You don’t think Caesar would have thought it a bit strange that I should get up and walk out—
Luc: *grinning*—after I kicked your ass? Yeah, that might have raised suspicion.
Gabe: *glares again* To answer your question, Emilie: No we’ve never been able to stand each other.

Emilie: Frannie, how is it having a hot angel and a hot ex-demon basically fighting over you? Are there some benefits?
Frannie: *splits a wary glace between Luc and Gabe* I don’t think they’re really fighting over me.
Luc: *smirks at Gabe* A fight would imply an even match.
Gabe: *glares at Luc* *white sparks crackle over palm* Keep it up, brimstone breath.
Frannie: Will you guys just stop? *rolls eyes* Really, it’s more that their bosses both want my power. And, no, there are no benefits. *folds arms across chest and stares boys down*

Emilie: Luc and Gabe, what is one thing you admire about each other?
Luc: *raises eyebrow at Emilie* Seriously?
Gabe: You’re complaining?
Luc: I am.
Gabe: I’ll start. Luc is…creative.
Luc: *barks out a laugh* That’s the best you could do?
Gabe: It’s better than “seriously?”
Luc: *looks back at Emilie* See what I have to put up with? Okay, give me a second… Got it! Gabe is…bright.
Gabe: *throws up hands* You admire my brightness?
Luc: *shoots a glare at Gabe* What do you want from me?
Gabe: I guess a reasonable answer is too much to hope for?
Luc: *slumps in chair* Fine. He’s loyal, I suppose.
Gabe: *nods* And Luc is courageous…when he wants to be.

Emilie: Luc, you’ve gone through some big changes. What has been the best/worst part?
Luc: Worst part, there are some things I could do before that I can’t anymore. Things like possess people. *shoots glance at Frannie*
Frannie: *blushes*
Luc: *lifts eyebrows* Best part, Frannie and I can be together in other ways.
Frannie: *blushes deeper*

Emilie: Gabe, have there been any moments where you wished you weren't an angel and didn't have to act accordingly?
Gabe: *clears throat* *eyes flick to Frannie* There are times… *shifts in chair* *clears throat again* *swallows* Yes.

Emilie: So Frannie, ever thought you would be the key to preventing the world as you know it from ending? No pressure, right?
Frannie: The thing about that is, I don’t think it’s me. Everyone keeps saying I can do this thing, but I can’t. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure they have the wrong sister. I mean, if anyone’s hooked into the whole angel/demon thing, it’s Grace, not me. But every time I try to tell Luc and Gabe that, they just give me that look. *waves hand at the boys*
Luc: *purses lips and drums fingers on table*
Gabe: *sighs and scrunches face at Frannie*

Emilie: Final question, what would each of you say or do to convince people who haven't read your story to do so?
Frannie: You know, it’s actually been a little annoying to have that Lisa chick following us around taking dictation, and I’m really sort of a private person, so if you don’t want to read the books, that’s okay with me. *flicks a glance at Luc then Gabe* There are some pretty embarrassing parts, if you want the truth.
Gabe: *clears throat and diverts eyes*
Luc: *shrugs a shoulder and tips back in chair* What she said.

So thank you Luc, Frannie and Gabe for allowing me to ask you these questions. Your answers were certainly quite intriguing.

Last Rite by Lisa Desrochers

Title: Last Rite (Personal Demons #3)
Author: Lisa Desrochers
Publisher: Tor Teen
Release Date: May 8, 2012
Source: ARC won from author
Buy the Book: Amazon / Book Depository
In this final instalment of the thrilling, edgy Personal Demons series, the battle between Heaven and Hell has become critical, and Frannie Cavanaugh is right at the centre of it.

With the help of the powerful angel Gabe and demon-turned-mortal Luc, Frannie has been able to stay one step ahead of the forces of Hell. But when the demons killed Frannie's best friend and destroyed her brother, they raised the stakes. If Frannie wants to keep her family and friends safe, she knows she has no choice but to go on the run.

Their best defense is the power Frannie has been struggling to master, but her attempts to hone her skill go horribly awry. If Frannie doesn't learn fast, the consequences could be devastating--even apocalyptic.

What happens when you can't outrun Hell…or trust the ones you love?

If you haven't picked up Lisa Desrochers' Personal Demons trilogy yet you are seriously missing out. Last Rite was everything I hoped the conclusion to the trilogy would be. So much happened, but I couldn't be happier with how it all turned out.

Frannie is on the run, trying to escape the forces of Hell with the help of Gabe and Luc. If they don't outrun Hell, it could just mean the end of humanity as they know it. In order to prevent that from happening, Frannie has to master her Sway, but that might be easier said than done. But when Hell starts going after Frannie's family, the game is changed. Despite Gabe and Luc's concerns, Frannie rushes back home to protect her family. And that's when everything goes to Hell. Literally. Now Frannie has to find a way to use her power of Sway to save humanity. Except that Frannie isn't even sure who she can trust anymore.

First things first, if you haven't picked up Lisa Desrochers' Personal Demons trilogy you definitely should. Believe me, you won't regret it. Moving beyond that, Last Rite was absolutely fantastic. It was everything I hoped the conclusion to this trilogy would be. Lisa Desrochers did not waste any time getting to the action. Right from page one, there was something happening and the action kept going the whole way through. What I've always loved about these books were the multiple points of view. In Last Rite, the changing points of view really helped add to the suspense because you never knew exactly all that was happening. And the ending was also what I hoped it would be.

I've grown very attached to the characters in this series and I have loved being able to get in so many of their heads. This time around I was happy to finally be able to see things from Gabe's perspective. Gabe was always a character I liked but he was always a bit of a mystery to me. But now I got to learn more about him and understand why he was always so conflicted. But despite liking Gabe a lot, I'm still Team Luc. Because Luc, despite frustrating me at times, was perfect for Frannie. And there's also something about him that makes it so you can't help but love him. And Frannie was still Frannie, and like with Luc, you can't help but like her. She is always willing and ready to sacrifice herself for the ones she loves and that's something I can't help admiring.

In Last Rite, Lisa Desrochers wrote a fantastic conclusion to her amazing Personal Demons trilogy. I know I'm repeating myself, but you need to pick these books up if you haven't already. You won't be disappointed.

Original Sin by Lisa Desrochers

Title: Original Sin (Personal Demons #2)
Author: Lisa Desrochers
Publisher: Tor Teen
Release Date: July 5, 2011
Source: Purchased
Buy the Book: Amazon / Book Depository / Indigo
Luc Cain was born and raised in Hell, but he isn't feeling as demonic as usual lately--thanks to Frannie Cavanaugh and the unique power she never realized she had. But you can't desert Hell without consequences, and suddenly Frannie and Luc find themselves targeted by the same demons who used to be Luc's allies.

Left with few options, Frannie and Luc accept the protection of Heaven and one of its most powerful angels, Gabe. Unfortunately, Luc isn't the only one affected by Frannie, and it isn't long before Gave realizes that being around her is too...tempting. Rather than risk losing his wings, he leaves Frannie and Luc under the protection of her recently acquired guardian angel.

Which would be fine, but Gabe is barely out the door before an assortment of demons appears--and they're not leaving without dragging Luc back to Hell with them. Hell won't give up and Heaven won't give in. Frannie's guardian exercises all the power he has to keep them away, but the demons are willing to hurt anyone close to Frannie in order to get what they want. It will take everything she has and then some to stay out of Hell's grasp.

And not everyone will get out of it alive.

After I finished reading Personal Demons last year, I couldn't wait to get my hands on Original Sin so I could find out what happens next. I had highly enjoyed the first book and Original Sin definitely did not disappoint.

Frannie's soul may now be tagged for Heaven but that still doesn't seem to be stopping all these demons from showing up in town and coming after Luc. Because Hell wants Luc back...except, thanks to Frannie's Sway, he's now human. And what's even better, Gabe has tagged his soul for Heaven. Just when things were starting to go well with Luc and Frannie strange things start happening in town, some demonic in nature, some not so much. Plus, there's Frannie's new guardian angel doesn't seem big on the idea of Luc and Frannie being together. And just when they all need Gabe's help the most, Gabe goes away, finding it more and more difficult to resist Frannie and her Sway. Not that he's trying so hard to resist her. Frannie will now have to fend for herself, especially when her guardian angel keeps getting distracted. But Hell is bringing all its got to the table and Frannie and Luc may be in more trouble than they thought.

Original Sin was nothing if not incredibly hot and sexy. Lisa Desrochers definitely knows how to write those steamy parts. But the book is so much more than just that. The story is incredibly well-written and those mini-cliffhangers at the end of the chapters only served to make me keep reading even when I knew I had to stop. Though what I love best about Original Sin were the alternating points of view. Lisa Desrochers definitely figured out how to make it so no matter who was speaking, I was never even close to bored. Basically, she did no wrong in this book, if you ask me.

Frannie was just as great as I remembered. She definitely doesn't let people walk all over her and that is one of the things I like best about her. But most importantly she wasn't the "damsel-in-distress" type and could actually defend herself when it came down to it. Even though Frannie seems to have chosen between Luc and Gabe, I still can't make my mind up. I loved seeing Luc as a human an reading his thoughts on the subject. Most of the time he just made me crack up or actually start laughing out loud. Once again, I wish I could have seen more of Gabe. But what I did have of him, I enjoyed a lot. What I particularly like is that he's always there for Frannie no matter what. That just made me like him that much more. An Matt was very interesting to say the least. I liked him at first but as the story moved forward I started to have my doubts about him. And with that ending, who knows what's going to happen next.

Original Sin was a most excellent sequel and if anything, it was even better than Personal Demons. Lisa Desrochers is an incredible writer and I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book in this series.

Personal Demons by Lisa Desrochers

Title: Personal Demons (Personal Demons #1)
Author: Lisa Desrochers
Publisher: Tor Teen
Release Date: September 14, 2010
Source: Purchased
Buy the Book: Amazon / Book Depository / Indigo
Frannie Cavanaugh has always been a bit of a loner. She’s spent years keeping everyone at a distance, even her closest friends. That is, until Luc Cain enrolls in her school. He’s hot, sarcastic, and dangerous--and Frannie can’t seem to stay away.

What she doesn’t know is that Luc is on a mission. Because Frannie isn’t exactly ordinary. She possesses a skill so unique the King of Hell himself has taken notice, and he’s sent Luc to claim Frannie’s soul. It should be easy: All he has to do is get her to sin, and Luc is as tempting as they come.

Unfortunately for Luc, Heaven has other plans, and he’s just started making progress when the angel Gabriel shows up. Gabe will do anything to keep Luc from getting what he came for, and his angelic charm might just be enough to keep Frannie on the right path.

It isn’t long before Luc and Gabe find themselves fighting for more than just Frannie’s soul. But if Luc fails to win her over, there will be Hell to pay...for all of them.

Before I finally decided to pick it up and read it, I had hear a lot of good things about Personal Demons but I had trouble making my mind up about reading it. To be honest, it was stupid that I took so long to make a decision because I had so much fun reading it. I found myself laughing throughout most of the book, which wasn’t something that had happened to me in a while.

Frannie has always tried to keep people at a distance, never really letting anyone completely in. But when Luc shows up in town and Frannie starts to have feelings that she worked so hard to keep away. Luc isn’t who he appears to be. At all. In fact, he’s actually a demon, a real one from Hell, sent to claim Frannie’s soul. But then things happen that aren’t supposed to be happening, like Luc developing feelings demons aren’t technically supposed to have. And of course when Gabe, an angel sent from Heaven, shows up things aren’t about to get any less complicated.

I liked Frannie a lot. That might have something to do with the fact that she didn’t turn out to be the person I expected her to be. She had a mind of her own and most of the time wasn’t afraid to speak it. And much like her personality, Frannie’s actions were never what I expected. In fact, they tended to be the complete opposite. One thing that normally would have bugged me was how she couldn’t seem to choose between Luc and Gabe. In this case, I was totally with Frannie. If I were in her shoes and I had to pick between the hot (literally) demon from Hell and the sexy angel from Heaven I don’t know what I would do. And of course the fact that she could kick some serious ass only made me like Frannie that much more.

Where to even begin with Luc and Gabe? It’s a lot easier to talk about Luc since there is so much more revealed about him than there is about Gabe. To be honest, at first I was rooting for Gabe because something just seemed off about Luc...other than the fact that he is a demon that is. But then I got to know Luc better and realized he actually isn’t a bad guy, despite the whole demon from Hell thing. Gabe is also pretty great but I just son’t know as much about him so it’s hard for me to have a clear opinion. All that to say, I am Team Luc...but that might change if we ever get anything written from Gabe’s point of view.

The story had me laughing almost constantly. I just loved the whole relationship between Luc and Gabe and how Frannie played into it. And of course there was plenty of action, which kept me very happy. The action was often completely unpredictable. Every time I thought they would finally catch a break, something else happened. And whenever they caught a break, they were never able to enjoy it for very long.

Overall Personal Demons was a fantastic book that had all the humor and action I could have ever asked for all mixed into one. I can’t wait to find out what happens next, as soon as I get my hands on a copy of Original Sin.
