Waiting on Wednesday (29)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where book bloggers showcase books they are looking forward to. What I plan on doing for the next few weeks is to talk about the books that are coming out at the beginning of next year from different publishers. This week I will be showcasing  January 2012 releases coming from Simon & Schuster. So here are the books I'm looking forward to.

Bittersweet by Sarah Ockler
January 3rd, 2012
Once upon a time, Hudson knew exactly what her future looked like. Then a betrayal changed her life, and knocked her dreams to the ground. Now she’s a girl who doesn’t believe in second chances... a girl who stays under the radar by baking cupcakes at her mom’s diner and obsessing over what might have been.
So when things start looking up and she has another shot at her dreams, Hudson is equal parts hopeful and terrified. Of course, this is also the moment a cute, sweet guy walks into her life...and starts serving up some seriously mixed signals. She’s got a lot on her plate, and for a girl who’s been burned before, risking it all is easier said than done.
It’s time for Hudson to ask herself what she really wants, and how much she’s willing to sacrifice to get it. Because in a place where opportunities are fleeting, she knows this chance may very well be her last....
This books just sounds great and I love the way that Sarah Ockler writes. I also really love contemporary books but in this day where almost everything is paranormal they are getting hard to find. So when I find one that sounds as good at this one I can't help but be excited to read it.

The Alchemy of Forever by Avery Williams

January 3rd, 2012
After spending six hundred years on earth, Seraphina Ames has seen it all. Eternal life provides her with the world’s riches, but at a very high price: innocent lives. Centuries ago, her boyfriend, Cyrus, discovered a method of alchemy that allows them to swap bodies with other humans, jumping from one vessel to the next, taking the human’s life in the process. No longer able to bear the guilt of what she’s done, Sera escapes from Cyrus and vows to never kill again.
Then sixteen-year-old Kailey Morgan gets into a horrific car accident right in front of her, and Sera accidentally takes over her body. For the first time, Sera finds herself enjoying the life of the person she’s inhabiting—and falls for the human boy who lives next door. But Cyrus will stop at nothing until she’s his again, and every moment she stays, she’s putting herself and the people she’s grown to care for in great danger. Will Sera have to give up the one thing that’s eluded her for centuries: true love?
This book sounds really awesome and sort of reminds me of Alyson Noël's Immortals series which I really enjoyed (though I have yet to read the final book). I love that recently there have been more books that deal with alchemy, and I really enjoy reading them so I'm really looking forward to reading this one.

Unraveling Isobel by Eileen Cook

January 3rd, 2012

Isobel’s life is falling apart. Her mom just married some guy she met on the internet only three months before, and is moving them to his sprawling, gothic mansion off the coast of nowhere. Goodbye, best friend. Goodbye, social life. Hello, icky new stepfather, crunchy granola town, and unbelievably good-looking, officially off-limits stepbrother.

But on her first night in her new home, Isobel starts to fear that it isn’t only her life that’s unraveling—her sanity might be giving way too. Because either Isobel is losing her mind, just like her artist father did before her, or she’s seeing ghosts. Either way, Isobel’s fast on her way to being the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons.
Ghost stories! I love ghost stories! And there definitely aren't enough of them. At least if there are I'm  not finding them and am totally missing out on reading them. Anyways, this book sounds really good though I haven't really heard much about it. At any rate, I'm really excited for the release of this book.

Everything You Need to Survive the Apocalypse by Lucas Klauss
January 3rd, 2012

Phillip's sophomore year is off to a rough start. One of his best friends ditches him for a group of douchebags. His track coach singles him out for personalized, torturous training sessions. And his dad decides to clean out all of the emergency supplies from the basement, even though the world could end in disaster at any moment...and even though those supplies are all Phillip has left of his dead mom. Not that he wants to talk about that.
But then Phillip meets Rebekah. Not only is she unconventionally hot and smart, but she has seriously great boobs. And she might like him back.
As Phillip gets closer to Rebekah, he tries harder and harder to turn himself into the kind of person he thinks she wants him to be. But the question is, can he become that person? And does he really want to?
It's a contemporary book. And the main character is a boy. How awesome is that? Based on that alone, I would pick this book out because there just aren't enough books that feature boys as main characters. But there's also the premise that sounds really interesting and the book has a really cool title so what can really go wrong here?

So these are the Simon & Schuster titles coming up in January that I am looking forward too. And they all come out on the same day. Let's just say the bookstore will make a lot of money off of me when January comes around. Now if only I could just wake up tomorrow morning and have it be January I would be happy.
